The Costs of Free Web Hosting

Is there truly anything such as free web hosting? Should it cost something if it says free? The answer to the first question is yes. The answer to the second question is… That depends. Free is nice but it’s not necessarily always the way to go. Anything for free can’t necessarily be assured to be of high quality. Paying a small fee for something frequently increases the chances of better service or a better product.

It’s becoming more difficult to find free web hosting that doesn’t include some type of advertising. It’s almost as if the free web hosting service offers you sites as installment loans; that way they have every right to advertise on it. E-commerce web sites are, as yet, not provided by free web hosting services to the point where they can be successful. The tools simply are not there. A little bit of bandwidth and an easy control panel is the best case scenario when dealing with free web hosting. Websites that are slow running and suffer frequent downtime can be some of the hazards of utilizing free hosting. This makes it difficult to run a business but might be allowable for personal, smaller sites. Research your free host before getting all set up; it is probably the best policy. Look for online reviews that are not sponsored by the web host itself.

Customer (No) Service

Few things are more annoying than expecting customer service and receiving none. Customer support, when it comes to free web hosting, is very nearly nonexistent. They may not even take responsibility for fixing something that is very obviously wrong. Let’s face it… They’re free. What on earth makes you think that you’re going to get something like customer support? This can be a huge factor in deterring business. Another discouraging factor is the advertising mentioned above. Banners going across the screen are annoying enough but the advertising that free web hosts put on your site can also be in the form of pop-ups. Nobody likes pop-ups.

So if money is tight, a free web hosting service may truly be the answer. Paying a slight fee for web hosting may, on the other hand, be better for you should you be able to afford the small charge and lets face, they aren't going to be charging a fees that will force you into bad credit loans. Remember, free web hosting services are basically considering the websites that people open with them loans… It’s not really yours because they can do pretty much do whatever they want with it.
